Angeline Cheong May May
PARTNER
Angeline holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Tasmania, Australia and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2006. She began her legal career at Skrine and joined Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill (LHAG) in 2008, where she was promoted to Senior Associate in 2011 and admitted as Partner in July 2013. She practiced as a Partner of LHAG until June 2017, following which she joined SIBKL where she assumed various ministry and operational roles overseeing systems and trainings, organising services and large-scale events and organisational support including digital transformation initiatives.
Angeline brings over a decade of experience in domestic and cross-border transactions, including privatisations, cross border investments, acquisitions and joint venture matters and a broad range of debt capital market transactions (including direct and syndicated corporate loans, as well as conventional and Islamic private debt securities). She has also advised concession companies on various governmental agreements and infrastructure projects and ventures.
Amongst the key transactions that she has advised on are the following:
- Advised on a voluntary takeover offer of a State energy corporation.
- Acted on the disposal of a stake in a tollway concession project in India.
- Advised on a strategic joint venture between a Malaysian developer and a UAE property group to develop properties in Malaysia and in the UAE.
- Advised on the privatisation and financing of a group of companies involved in construction, tollway concessions, real estate and property development and manufacturing.
- Advised on the issuance of Islamic commercial papers and medium term notes programme by a State Government corporation.
- Advised on the issuance of senior sukuk and junior bonds by a highway concessionaire company.
- Advised on the issuance of serial fixed rate bonds with detachable warrants by a construction company.
Having returned to legal practice by joining MKP on 5 May 2025, Angeline’s practice will comprise primarily of corporate and commercial advisory work, mergers and acquisitions transactions, capital markets work and banking and finance matters.
